Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic has sent a letter of protest to the Global Environment Fund (GEF) for its announcement that it will give membership to the illegally proclaimed state of Kosovo.

In making the protest, Dulic referred to UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and Article 7 of the GEF’s founding act which states that only UN member states and specialised UN agencies can be members of that organisation.

Assistant Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Aleksandar Vesic will attend the 4th Assembly of the GEF to be held in Uruguay from 24 to 28 May, for which it was announced that a document “welcoming the admission of Kosovo to GEF” will be adopted.

One of the GEF founders is the World Bank, which has already given full membership to Kosovo, reads a statement by the Ministry.
