Based on the news agency AFP, Koha Ditore reports that the United States requested on Thursday that European nations unify after the United Nations Court opinion, which assessed Kosovo’s independence as legal, while the U.S. Vice-President also reached his hand toward Serbia.

“The ICJ strongly assesses that the declaration of independence of Kosovo is legal, a judgment that we support,” spokesperson of the State Department Philip Crowly said to AFP.

“Now is the time for Europe to unite after a joint future,” he added. Just before the announcement of the opinion, the U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden phoned Serbia’s President Boris Tadic, to stress “the unshakable commitment of the U.S. to Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”, reported the Office of the Vice-President Biden.

He also called Serbia to work in a constructive manner to resolve practical issues with Kosovo, in order to improve the lives of the people in Kosovo, Serbia and the region.
