On Monday, August 16th, Ambassador Mary Burce Warlick, along with a basketball team from the U.S. Embassy in Serbia, visited the sports and humanitarian basketball camp entitled “I Came to Play!” which is taking place at youth camp “Letenka” at Fruska Gora.
“It is not so important whether you win or lose but how you play the game. In life, only fair players deserve respect and serve as an example to the community,” said Ambassador Warlick to the participants.
This is the third year that the NGO “Play” has organized this camp, which gathers students aged 14-16 from Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo. For 10 days, participants train in basketball, while at the same time are engaged in a series of lectures and workshops on conflict resolution, fair play and the environment. What makes this camp different from others is the fact that it is fully free of charge for selected attendees. The U.S. Embassy in Serbia supported this project through its “Democracy Commission Small Grants Program.”
The U.S. Embassy in Serbia is fully committed to supporting the promotion of a healthy life style, good sportsmanship, and youth leadership initiatives in Serbia.
