Organic production law to come into effect January 1

The law regulates the production of agricultural and other organic products, the goals, principles and methods, control and certification, processing, labelling, storage, transport, transit, import and export of organic goods and other related issues.
A new organic production law comes into effect January 1 which will contribute to the development and advancement of organic production, the preservation and rational use of natural resources and energy, and curb pollution in Serbia.
The law regulates the production of agricultural and other organic products, the goals, principles and methods, control and certification, processing, labelling, storage, transport, transit, import and export of organic goods and other related issues.
The law's provisions also apply to the products of all stages of plant and animal production, including animal aquaculture, if the products are intended for the market.
The law is applicable to primary agricultural products, processed agricultural products used as food, animal feed, seed, seedlings, as well as yeast used as a food or animal feed supplement.
Organic production prohibits the use of pesticides, mineral fertilizers, hormones, additives and other harmful substances.
Control bodies, authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, will be in charge of certification.
