Italy Serbia's chief export destination, Russia accounts for biggest part of import

Serbia's chief export partner in 2010 was Italy, where USD 1.2 billion of goods were exported, while Russia tops the list when it comes to import, with USD 2.16 billion of merchandise, according to the data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia.

When it comes to export, Italy is followed by Bosnia-Herzegovina (USD 1.09 billion) and Germany (USD 1.01 billion).
In terms of import, Germany came in second (USD 1.77 billion) and Italy was third (USD 1.43 billion).
Countries with whom Serbia has a standing free trade agreement account for the largest part of the trade. More than half of Serbia's trade with the world was done with EU members.
The countries of the Central European Free Trade Agreement were the second best trade partner. Serbia recorded a USD 1.36 billion surplus in trading with these countries, mostly by selling agricultural produce.
The greatest surplus in terms of individual countries was achieved with Montenegro, followed by Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia. The largest deficit occurred in dealings with Russia, mostly because of the oil and natural gas import.
