Dacic: Police seized 1.7 tons of narcotics in 2010

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated on Friday that the Ministry implemented comprehensive measures and activities in the field of fight against all forms of crime in 2010, discovered ten organised crime rings and seized 1.7 tons of narcotics.

Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated on Friday that the Ministry implemented comprehensive measures and activities in the field of fight against all forms of crime in 2010, discovered ten organised crime rings and seized 1.7 tons of narcotics.

Summarising the results police achieved in 2010 at a meeting of the Interior Ministry, Dacic said that drug trafficking is one of the most common forms of crime, adding that the police discovered 35 drug-smuggling rings and arrested 192 persons in 2010.

Most of the discovered drug-smuggling rings were engaged in heroin sale.

When it comes to financial crime, the authorities filed criminal charges against 179 members of organised crime groups and arrested 158 individuals.

The minister stated that the police also worked intensively on combating all forms of corruption in 2010, which resulted in the filing of corruption charges against 3.814 persons, which is the highest number of such cases reported in the past ten years.
