Serbia will soon re-open its embassy in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, it was said Sunday at a joint news conference of the two countries' foreign ministers Vuk Jeremic and Alexis Thambwe Mwamba.
The Congolese foreign minister is on a two-day visit to Serbia, during which he will have several meetings with ministers and businessmen.
Jeremic said that Serbia and Congo have a long history of friendly relations, and stressed there is a lot of cause for optimism regarding future bilateral economic cooperation.
"Many Serbian companies operate in Congo, and today we discussed exporting buses and railroad cars to that country, as well as cooperation in agriculture," said the Serbian foreign minister.
There is a lot of cause for optimism regarding future economic cooperation between Serbia and Congo and reason to expect trade and investments will grow, he said.
Jeremic thanked the government of Congo and Minister Mwamba for supporting Serbia in preservation of its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
"Congo has come under pressure, but it was fruitless, and we appreciate their principled stance," Jeremic said.
Mwamba also stressed that the two countries have a long history of friendly relations, reminding about the importance that Tito, the president of former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, had in the African world.
Mwamba expressed satisfaction over Serbia's plans to re-open its embassy in Kinshasa, stressing that Congo kept its embassy in Belgrade open, which says how much it values its relations with Serbia.
The Congolese foreign minister added that the two countries agreed to form a joint mixed committee which should help improve their economic and political relations.
