In an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Blic, Dacic said that the biggest opposition party and the central party in the government coalition have agreed that elections should be called before their regular deadline. He also said that the two parties agreed that obtaining EU candidate status is the country's national interest.

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica Dacic has stated that there are no formal or legal reasons to call early elections at this point because parliamentary majority is stable.

He believes that there are no political reasons or conflicts that could force the SPS to break up its coalition with the Democratic Party (DS).

In an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Blic, Dacic said that the biggest opposition party and the central party in the government coalition have agreed that elections should be called before their regular deadline. He also said that the two parties agreed that obtaining EU candidate status is the country's national interest.

Dacic recalled that the topic of early elections was discussed at several meetings of leadership of the opposition Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and the DS, and added that he did not take part in these talks.
