Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated on Wednesday that Serbia did not manage to defend Kosovo in armed conflicts and that this is the reason why the country speaks about separation that implies a correction of the borders between Serbia and Albania.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated on Wednesday that Serbia did not manage to defend Kosovo in armed conflicts and that this is the reason why the country speaks about separation that implies a correction of the borders between Serbia and Albania.
"We tried to defend Kosovo by armed conflicts, we failed and this is why I am talking about separation, before it is too late, and this implies a correction in the borders between two neighbouring countries, Serbia and Albania,” Dacic said in an interview for the Thursday edition of the Belgrade-based weekly NIN.
According to Dacic, Serbia should redefine its national goals from the period after the Battle of Kosovo and the year of 1389, because both Serbs and Turks lost the battle, while Albanians won.
Albanians, who did not even exist back then, won the battle, Dacic pointed out.
Now, the Kosovo issue can be solved either by a new conflict between Serbs and Albanians or by their historic agreement, Dacic underscored.
Taci: Pristina could demand more than independence
Kosovo Prime Minister Hasim Taci said on Wednesday that Belgrade officials should cease making statements on Kosovo's partition, otherwise the demands of Pristina can be greater than the independence of Kosovo
Taci said after a government session that there will be absolutely no partition of Kosovo, no territorial exchange, no change of borders or any threat to Kosovo's territorial integrity.
He added that this was the response to all supporters of anti-historical ideas and anti-European perspective of the region. If Pristina starts to open such topics, then Belgrade will not be able to close them, he said.
He did not specify what topics Pristina might open, but urged Belgrade to explain to the citizens of northern Mitrovica and Kosovo that Kosovo is their country and that their capital is Pristina.
