The fact that an agreement has been reached regarding the organisation of such a high-profile meeting in Belgrade and Serbia represents a recognition to the Serbian Army for the joint engagement in missions with various armies, both those from the East and the West, Miscevic said in an interview for Tanjug.
The Strategic Partner Military Conference, which would be held in Belgrade next week and should be attended by representatives of some 60 NATO member countries, the Partnership for Peace programme, the Mediterranean Dialogue and the Istanbul Initiative, does not constitute jeopardy to Serbia's policy of military neutrality, State Secretary in the Serbian Ministry of Defence Tanja Miscevic stated.
The fact that an agreement has been reached regarding the organisation of such a high-profile meeting in Belgrade and Serbia represents a recognition to the Serbian Army for the joint engagement in missions with various armies, both those from the East and the West, Miscevic said in an interview for Tanjug.
Announcing that the conference, due to take place from June 13 to 15, would focus on most important issues regarding dangers to the world security, as well as regional and national security, Miscevic said that organisation of meetings is one of obligations of the Partnership for Peace programme, whose member Serbia became in 2006.
Commenting on statements that the organisation of the conference calls into question Serbia's military neutrality, Miscevic said that one conference cannot endanger the country's policy, especially not a conference whose staging was granted by the Serbian government and parliament.
Of course we are not endangering Serbia's national policy with regard to military neutrality, Miscevic pointed out and added that the Belgrade meeting is another element the country can use to enhance its relations within the Partnership for Peace programme.
