The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) denied Vojislav Seselj's request to be temporarily released, the ICTY announced Friday.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) denied Vojislav Seselj's request to be temporarily released, the ICTY announced Friday.
Seselj made the spoken request July 6, when he appeared before the court to enter a plea on charges of contempt, according to the release.
Since his custody was decided as part of his main trial, any request for a release must be addressed to the chamber in charge of that case, the court ruling states.
Seselj's main trial involves charges of crimes against humanity and violations of the rules and customs of war in Vojvodina, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina between 1991 and 1993.
He was found guilty of contempt for the third time in May. In the first instance, he was sentenced to 15 months, while he is still awaiting sentencing for the second case.
Seselj turned himself over to the ICTY in February 2003. His trial began in November 2007.
