The situation in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica went back to normal Tuesday morning, after KFOR and EULEX police completely withdrew from the main bridge which separates the north from the south part of town.

Only a few members of the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) remain on the north side of the bridge, while more are stationed on the south side, along with one KFOR truck. The atmosphere in the city streets is normal, but with fewer people than usual, since many have been at the roadblock in the Rudare village in the neighboring municipality of Zvecan since this morning.

EULEX special forces left the area of the District Court and the police station in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, where they had been stationed since Monday night. In Rudare, where Serbs kept the road leading to the Jarinje administrative border crossing blocked the entire night, the situation is also peaceful, with more and more people coming in.

The bridge in Kosovska Mitrovica partially opened for traffic just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, adter KFOR and EULEX forces closed it around midnight. Strong KFOR and EULEX forces had blocked the bridge after KPS special units took control of the Brnjak administrative crossing and attempted to reach the Jarinje crossing.

This triggered a reaction from the Serbs, who organized a protest at the Brnjak crossing, and blocked the Kosovska Mitrovica - Raska road at two locations, preventing KPS forces from reaching Jarinje.
