In his latest report to the UN Security Council, prepared for the next UN session on Kosovo, on August 29, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon appealed to all sides to refrain from actions that could lead to the escalation of tension and curb the progress achieved in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue so far, calling on the sides to work together in order that any deterioration of the situation be evaded.
The session of the UN Security Council (SC) at which the situation in Kosovo-Metohija will be discussed will be held on 29 August, it was confirmed today at the Mission of India which will chair the Security Council in August.
This is a regular UN SC session at which the latest quarterly report of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will be looked at.
This will also be a chance to discuss the crisis in the north of Kosovo-Metohija caused by a unilateral attempt of Pristina authorities to take over two administrative crossings.
Ban Ki Moon calls for reserve in Kosovo
In his latest report to the UN Security Council, prepared for the next UN session on Kosovo, on August 29, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon appealed to all sides to refrain from actions that could lead to the escalation of tension and curb the progress achieved in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue so far, calling on the sides to work together in order that any deterioration of the situation be evaded, Tanjug learns.
Ban underlines that the delicate issues regarding northern Kosmet could be resolved by peaceful means only, on the basis of consultations with all the ethnic communities in the field and not by means of unilateral actions.
The document also greets the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina on the freedom of movement, public registers and university diplomas and the two sides are called on to be fully engaged in the application of that agreement.
The report covers the period from April 16 to July 15, before the crisis that broke out when Kosovo police special forces were sent to two administrative lines between northern Kosmet and central Serbia.
It is therefore that the total situation is assessed as relatively peaceful, although Ban indicates that tension rose towards the end of that period.
