The U.S. deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs, Philip Reeker, said that the U.S. supports the implementation of the package of international mediator Martti Ahtisaari, and the establishing of law and order in northern Kosovo.

The U.S. deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs, Philip Reeker, said that the U.S. supports the implementation of the package of international mediator Martti Ahtisaari, and the establishing of law and order in northern Kosovo.

After a meeting with Kosovo Premier Hashim Thaci, Reeker said that one should focus on the establishing of order and peace in the north and the implementation of Ahtisaari's plan.

"Sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo is clear and what we need to do is the will for establishing the rule of law," Reeker said, expressing support for the work of the institutions of Kosovo in the entire territory of the country, for the benefit of its citizens.

Asked about the Kosovo government's activities in northern Kosovo, Reeker replied that Kosovo is a sovereign and independent state and that it has the right to exercise authority throughout its territory.

As a message to all countries of the region, he said that there can be no changing of borders in the Balkans, adding that the key issue is the establishing and enforcing of law and order.
