French Ambassador to Pristina JeanFrancois Fitou has stated that the Ahtisaari plan is the best solution for northern Kosovo and that it guaranteed all rights to the Serb community there.

Fitou asked anyone seeking models for a solution to that part of Kosovo to read the Martti Ahtisaari plan, stating that it made provisions for everything, was highly progressive and possessed the best "institutional architecture" in Europe.

He further told the Koha Ditore daily that the plan allotted to the Serb community the broadest rights in Europe.

The French ambassador said measures taken by Kosovo institutions on July 25 to take over administrative line crossings in northern parts of the territory should be taken as steps by a sovereign state and pushed forward.

He interpreted the events as creating opportunities for a new dynamic in the BelgradePristina dialog.
