ICTY Spokeswoman Nerma Jelacic dismissed Thursday reports that Ratko Mladic is in the Bronovo Hospital, explaining that for now she cannot give further details about the Hague indictee's health.
“I can confirm that he has not left the detention facility in Scheveningen. In line with the Tribunal's rules, I cannot give further details in relation to health of any indictee, Jelacic's statement reads.
Certain Belgrade media reported that Mladic had hernia surgery on Wednesday in the Dutch Bronovo Hospital, where to now, a number of ICTY detainees underwent medical examination and treatment.
According to the ICTY rules, the court's Secretariat treats data on the indictee's health as confidential until the indictee approves that such information be made public, the release reads.
"In general, I may only say that the Secretariat makes sure that all the indictees receive the best possible health care and medical treatment when it is necessary,“ Jelacic underlined.
The Tribunal's rules envisage that any situation in which the prisoner's life is in danger shall be reported to the Secretariat, and no such notification was received as regards Mladic, the release noted.
