Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic stated on Wednesday that removal of roadblocks in northern Kosovo-Metohija is in the interest of Serb survival in the country's southern province, and he called on members of international missions to protect all citizens and refrain from use of violence against Serbs.
We need to remove all dangers so as to prevent further escalation of unrests and any other potential jeopardy to citizens' safety, the prime minister noted in a statement for Tanjug.
Cvetkovic called on international missions acting in Kosovo in keeping with their UN mandate to protect all citizens and refrain from use of violence against Serbs, and expressed expectation that northern Kosovo Serbs would adopt wise decisions and thus contribute to the survival of Serbs in the entire territory of the southern Serbian province.
Cvetkovic underscored that barricades achieved their goal, that is, they prevented opening of institutions of the so-called independent Kosovo in the north, and the dialogue was drawn out of the standstill.
Now a chance needs to be given to negotiations, Cvetkovic said and added that the Serbian government believes the dialogue can bring about lasting stability which would not pose a jeopardy to the survival of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija.
