Serbian and Macedonian Ministers of the Interior, Ivica Dacic and Gordana Jankuloska respectively, signed in Belgrade on Wednesday an agreement on cooperation between the two countries' governments, stressing that this creates a legal framework for institutionalization of already good police cooperation.

The signatories of the agreement recalled that this is only one of the documents which were signed to officialize the cooperation in fight against various types of crime i.e. police cooperation at all levels.

Dacic said that Wednesdays' agreement is only to institutionalize the police cooperation which Serbia and Macedonia have had up to now, as well as their cooperation in fight against organized crime which have yielded good results so far.

Furthermore, Dacic underlined that drug routes are changing, and recalled that Serbia and Macedonia, along with Bulgaria, are located on the Balkan heroin route.

“Lately it seems like the routes are changing in order to avoid control at the Serbian borders, therefore the amount of confiscated heroin has been considerably reduced, while cocaine virtually does not pass through this area,” Dacic underlined.

Jankuloska pointed to the joint efforts of Serbia and Macedonia in tracing drug routes.

She underlined that Wednesday's agreement was the final stage of the legal framework of cooperation, and that it opens perspectives for both ministries.

In this manner we confirm good cooperation between the two police sectors, while the agreement is also the basis for progress in coordinated police cooperation through which we can find solutions to the most complex problems, Jankuloska said.
