Serbia is dealing with the state of emergency caused by heavy snowfall and low temperature levels better than many other countries, Serbian President Boris Tadic said Friday in Nova Varos, a town in southwestern part of the country.
“We need to understand this is a state of emergency. We are dealing with it better than many other countries, which indicates that we have improved our country's ability to react with good organization in such situations,” Tadic told journalists after his meeting with the heads of Nova Varos and Prijepolje municipalities.
Tadic said that every municipality in Serbia had received mazut, petroleum, fuel oil and financial and technical assistance.
Tadic expressed his satisfaction about the commitment shown by the authorities in charge.
President Tadic said that the purpose of his visit to the most endangered municipalities was to make the entire logistics system as mobile as possible, the reason for his being accompanied by the army and police emergency situations sector units.
“We are talking to the municipal representatives, pointing to the need to transfer the available machinery to sites where emergency interventions are necessary,” Tadic added.
He said the mountainous areas needed rescue service centers and that those should be formed in the days ahead.
The electricity system is in the balance, Tadic stressed, reiterating his call on the citizens for electricity conservation.
