Nine years since assassination of Djindjic

Today marks nine years since the assassination of prime minister Zoran Djindjic, which took place on March 12, 2003 in front of the Serbian government building.

Today marks nine years since the assassination of prime minister Zoran Djindjic, which took place on March 12, 2003 in front of the Serbian government building.

As the Democratic Party (DS) released, representatives of that party, members of the Presidency, ministers and citizens will at 11 a.m. lay wreaths at the tomb of Djindjic at the Alley of Meritorious Citizens at New Cemetery in Belgrade.

At noon, Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and members of his cabinet will lay wreaths at the memorial dedicated to Djindjic near the government building.

The finals of the public speaking contest entitled 'Speeches in Zoran's Honour' will start at 1 p.m. at the Yugoslav Drama Theater. The present will have opportunity to hear addresses by eight public speakers, who managed to qualify for the finals.

After that, the DS youth will organize a walk to the Alley of Meritorious Citizens at New Cemetery, and thus pay respects to Serbia's first democratic prime minister.
