On April 10, police in several Sebian towns rounded up 14 suspects in the torching of the U.S. Embassy in February 2008 on the heels of a rally called "Kosovo is Serbia."

Republican Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac who is on an official visit to Madrid, said on April 10 that the arrest of the suspects was the first step before going after the instigators.

"The arrest of the direct executors is the first step, after which the instigators will be processed, i.e. the persons who are responsible for what happened," Dolovac told reporters in Madrid.

Dolovac said that 14 persons, all of whom are hooligans with previous convictions, were arrested by the authorities, adding that "this is not the final figure" and that proceedings were being readied.

The suspects were rounded up in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Indjija and Pancevo, the Novi magazine weekly reported on its website.

Dolovac said that a working group had been working for the past two years with embassies who recorded footage of the riots that ensued after the rally on Feb. 21, 2008, after Kosovo declared independence.
