Ahead of Matthew Nimetz's visit to Skopje on Feb. 23, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said a meeting would be held Monday with President Gjorge Ivanov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Milososki and Vice Premier Abdulakim Ademi to discuss expectations from upcoming talks with the UN envoy.
Answering journalist questions during his visit to Kratovo, Gruevski said that a broader meeting with opposition officials could be convened depening on what Nimetz would present.
- Unless Mr. Nimetz puts forward some more concrete ideas, a broader meeting could be convened. It all depends on whether Nimetz will present concrete ideas prompting name row settlement or whether he will come only for a consultative meeting. Our further steps will depend on that as well, stated Gruevski.
He said that pressure was exerted on both Macedonia and Greece regarding the name issue.
- More or less, the international community is trying to pressure both parties. In Macedonia it is easier, because Greece is a member of EU and NATO and the country is bigger and more powerful. The international community pushes in a bid a solution to the name dispute to be found that will be acceptable for the two countries, including the citizens of Macedonia, stated PM Gruevski.
