The raging fire that broke out late Saturday near the Milloi puts residents at risk and ground forces battle the flames under very difficult circumstances. According to the local reports, three houses have been severely damaged in the village of Aetos

27 fire engines with 61 firemen, 32 walkers, 10 vehicles of Local Government and many volunteer citizens are trying to put the fire under control.

Authorities say a wildfire has destroyed four houses on the Greek island of Evia and is being fanned by strong gales that have prevented firefighting aircraft from flying.

Fire Service chief Stelios Stefanidis says the fire on the southern tip of the island has now turned away from inhabited areas toward two mountain ravines.

Some tourists fled their hotels early Sunday morning, but most have returned after the fire changed direction. No casualties have been reported.

At least four smaller fires are burning on the south side of the island of Crete. One burned a rare palm forest.
