Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Monday visited the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) where she rang the Opening Bell to signify the day's start of trading and met NYSE president Duncan Niederauer.

Expressing satisfaction with her visit to the NYSE, the financial heart of the American and world economies, Kosor said she hoped that the stock market would have a successful week.

"I hope that this will be one of the most successful days on the NYSE," Kosor told Croatian reporters.

Kosor said that she provided Niederauer with information about the Zagreb Stock Exchange and her government's measures for economic recovery. Also discussed was tourism, as a respectable and promising branch of the national economy, and the development of small and medium businesses.

Kosor added that Niederauer and his associates expressed support and good wishes for Croatia.

We had excellent talks about all the great things that are happening in Croatia, about its forthcoming admission to the EU and economic recovery, which is the most evident in the tourism industry, Niederauer said after the meeting.

He added that it was an honour for the NYSE to have PM Kosor mark the start of trading and that he accepted her invitation to visit Croatia.

PM Kosor was expected to give a speech at the 65th annual session of the UN General Assembly late on Monday night, Central European Time. She was also expected to meet her Malaysian and Jamaican counterparts on the margins of the session.
