About 1,500 disable people protested on Thursday in Athens downtown due to certain benefits cuts, which are the consequence of severe savings measures introduced by the socialist Greek government in order to cushion the effects of the country’s deep crisis.

About 1,500 disable people protested on Thursday in Athens downtown due to certain benefits cuts, which are the consequence of severe savings measures introduced by the socialist Greek government in order to cushion the effects of the country’s deep crisis.

The blind, hearing-impaired and people in wheelchairs gathered in the city's main Syntagma Square so as to demand that the government exempt the disabled from the cuts, the AP Agency reported.

The disabled decided to express their dissatisfaction on the United Nations' International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The government’s severe measures were a prerequisite for receiving international bailout loans which helped Greece to avoid bankruptcy.

Several strikes were organized against those measures, reporters and students being those who have also expressed their dissatisfaction this week.
