Serbian Delta Maxi to invest EUR 51 in Bulgarian footprint

Delta opened its first Tempo store in Sofia on Thursday, with investments in the unit estimated at BGN 40 million. The hypermarket spans 30,000 square metres and employs 450. The 24-hour outlet is located in shopping centre Sredets.
Serbian retailer Delta Maxi, which owns Bulgarian supermarket chain Piccadilly, will invest BGN 100 million into the expansion of its Tempo hypermarket chain in the country by 2013, the company said on Thursday.
The retailer aims to introduce the Tempo brand in all Bulgarian cities with population of over 100,000, Delta Maxi International's executive head, Aleksandar Camparevic, said.
Delta has invested BGN 240 million in Bulgaria since the 2007 purchase of 11 stores of the Piccadilly brand, which currently number 40.
The company intends to add another ten Piccadilly supermarkets to its chain in the country, investing a total BGN 40 million, Camparevic added.
