The evolution of exports contributed to the diminution of the trade deficit, which was lower by 18.4 percent from the same period in 2010.
The FOB-CIF trade deficit over January 1-April 30, 2010 was 10.02 billion lei (2.3 billion euros), down by 2.1 billion lei (0.5 billion euros) from the one in the similar time span in 2010.
In the first four months too the EU went on being Romania's main trade partner, accounting for 72.1 percent of all exports and 71.2 percent of all imports. The groups of products with a high added value, namely transport machines and equipment (42.3 percent in exports and 34.0 percent in imports) and other manufactured products (33.1 percent in exports and 30.4 percent in imports), are still the most important ones in Romanian exports and foreign trade.
In April exports grew by 16.5 percent in lei (16.7 percent in euros) from April 2010.
But in April, when compared with March 2011, there was a slowdown in exports due to the evolution of the exchange rate of the national currency and the evolution of the demand on the markets of Romania's main trade partners.
