Romania's Constitutional Court (CCR) is meeting on Thursday to discuss the draft law on revising the Constitution submitted by Romanian President Traian Basescu.

Romania's Constitutional Court (CCR) is meeting on Thursday to discuss the draft law on revising the Constitution submitted by Romanian President Traian Basescu.

Traian Basescu on June 9 sent CCR the bill on the verification of Constitutional provisions observance related to revision. According to the Presidential Administration, the draft law was submitted together with the opinion of the Legislative Council.

Subsequently, the revision draft, accompanied by the Legislative Council's opinion and by the CCR ruling, is to be forwarded to Parliament for debate and approval.

CCR is to pronounce on the bill based on the vote of two thirds of the judges and the Court's ruling is communicated to the initiator or, where appropriate, to its representative.

Within a five-day deadline, since the adoption of the Constitution revision bill, the Constitutional Court will make an ex officio decision, again based on the vote of two thirds of the judges.

The ruling assessing the lack of compliance with the constitutional provisions on revision is to be conveyed to the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate with a view to re-examining the Constitution revision bill, by putting it in accordance with the Constitutional Court's ruling.
