7 army grenade launchers and more than 1,000 cartridges have been seized in the frames of a special police operation carried out in Bulgaria’s second biggest city of Plovdiv. Two people have been detained, both without criminal record.

The operation was realised by the Chief Directorate for Fight against Organised Crime, the District Interior Ministry Directorate – Plovdiv and the District Prosecution Office.

Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov told FOCUS News Agency that during the raids and the arrests one of the detainees made an attempt to escape by trying to jump down from the 4th floor.
Work on the case continues.

The grenade launchers are not produced in Bulgaria. Authorities are investigating their origin and the way they have been imported.

Work on the high-profile police operation codenamed the Grenade Launchers in Plovdiv took about a month, said Senior Commissar Todor Chonov, Director of District Interior Ministry Directorate – Plovdiv. According to him, the grenade launchers seized by authorities were aimed for sale.
