Agrokor Group is Croatia's biggest private company with consolidated total revenues were 26.5 billion Croatian kuna in 2010 and more than 35,000 employees. Mercator is the region’s largest retailer, with stores around most of the former Yugoslavia. Agrokor Group follows closely behind.

Croatian food giant Agrokor Group has allegedly offered two billion kunas (268 million Euros) for the purchase of Slovenian retail chain, Mercator.

Although Agrokor has not officially confirmed the amount of its offer, Nova TV sources told the station that Agrokor’s owner Ivica Todoric is ready to dish out 268 million Euros in his second attempt to buy the company.

Todoric tried to buy 23.34 percent of Mercator earlier this year from beverage producer Pivovarna Lasko, but the sale was stopped by the country's competition watchdog because Lasko had not sought its approval, Reuters wrote at the time.
