Subway to open first outlet in Bucharest next week

American fast food chain Subway will open its first Romanian unit in Bucharest on April 10, 2012. The fast food outlet will be located in Victoriei Square, on Nicolae Titulescu Blvd.

American fast food chain Subway will open its first Romanian unit in Bucharest on April 10, 2012. The fast food outlet will be located in Victoriei Square, on Nicolae Titulescu Blvd.

Other Subway outlets are planned for Romania this year, Iulius Mall – in Cluj – Napoca, and in the Palas shopping center in Iasi.

Subway currently runs 36,000 restaurants in 99 countries. The company has opened units in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Slovakia and Croatia. Its worldwide competitors are McDonald’s Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, among others. The first three are already present on the Romanian market.

The first Subway plans for Romania were announced in 2010, when the company said it was planning to open shop in Romania and Croatia, but the announcement of the first locations was further pushed to 2012.
