First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic will meet with Deputy Speaker of the Russian Duma Alexander Babakov today

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic will meet with Deputy Speaker of the Russian Duma Alexander Babakov on 14 February at 18.45 in the Palace of Serbia, western entrance.

The vice-president of the Russian State Duma, Alexander Babakov, said admission of Serbia to the EU could positively reflect on relations between Serbia and Russia, while admission to NATO could produce negative effects.

In an interview to agency BETA before his visit to Serbia, he said Serbia’s EU integrations should not be detrimental to the present relations with Moscow, but should enrich those relations.

Therefore, such integrations should be welcomed, the more so as they are related to the expectations of positive changes in the social-economic sphere in Serbia.

He said official Moscow did not approve of a possible admission of Serbia to NATO, regarding it as a potential threat to Russia.

One should be cautious in order to avoid interpretations and I believe the people of Serbia are against such a position, Babakov said.
