State Secretary with the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija Oliver Ivanovic has expressed expectation that the resolution, which was adopted in the UN General Assembly, will lead to talks that would primarily create conditions for survival of Serbs in the province.

State Secretary with the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija Oliver Ivanovic has expressed expectation that the resolution, which was adopted in the UN General Assembly, will lead to talks that would primarily create conditions for survival of Serbs in the province.

Ivanovic told Tanjug that the format of the talks with Pristina has not been defined yet, but that it should definitely include representatives of the international community.

Ivanovic said that besides the EU officials, it is necessary for the talks to involve the representatives of the UN, Russia and the US.

"Therefore, there should be four representatives of the international community and also Belgrade and Pristina officials in order to hold the type of talks that may lead to a serious progress," Ivanovic said.

When asked whether Serbia will still insist that the talks on technical issues cannot be carried out outside the context of the Kosovo status, Ivanovic responded that Belgrade has to adjust its policy to the given circumstances so as to achieve the maximum result.

"We recognize Ban Ki-moon's six-point plan that proscribes reaching agreement on certain technical issues. It is difficult to say whether the status or the technical issues come first. If the issue of status was to be discussed at the moment, we would get nothing given that the Kosovo Albanians and their powerful sponsors would not accept to negotiate on the status in such a manner," Ivanovic said.

According to him, it is inevitable however to mention and resolve the issue of Kosovo status since while addressing the technical issues, the status of the province will surely appear as an obstacle.

"Some kind of way out will have to be found among the existing legal solutions, both those in Kosovo and in other parts of Serbia, but I am certain that we all have to be inventive in the search, since that is in the interest of both parties," the minister said.

"Serbia is politically instable due to the unsolved status of Kosovo. The ethnic Albanians are not in a better position since Kosovo is not politically stable and as such it is exposed to huge pressure of corruption and crime that hinders investments since no one is willing to invest in such an unstable surrounding," Ivanovic said.
