Serbian President Boris Tadic said Tuesday the talks with Pristina could be delayed after Fatmir Sejdiu's resignation as Kosovo president and possible presidential elections there, but also stressed that there would be no early elections in Serbia caused by the issues with Kosovo.

Serbian President Boris Tadic said Tuesday the talks with Pristina could be delayed after Fatmir Sejdiu's resignation as Kosovo president and possible presidential elections there, but also stressed that there would be no early elections in Serbia caused by the issues with Kosovo.

"Every Serbian citizen knows we have not recognized Kosovo's independence, although certain political leaders would like that to happen so they could win the next elections," said Tadic.

"There will be no elections over Kosovo, and no one could profit on them either," Tadic noted during a visit to Sombor, northern Serbia.

If Kosovo does hold elections, the talks will probably be postponed until a new president is elected, Tadic remarked.

The Serbian authorities are optimistic ahead of the talks and hope that all open issues will be up for discussion, said Tadic.

Serbia wishes to discuss all open issues with Kosovo representatives, and it is going to be very difficult to prevent it from insisting on that once the dialogue starts, the president stated.

The format of the dialogue is currently being decided, and the government should soon name its negotiator, Tadic explained.

"The negotiations will not be short, because there are many problems that need solving, but in itself, the dialogue is a great thing. We have wanted a new dialogue all these years because Serbia would be at a loss otherwise," Tadic concluded.
