Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said last night at a ceremony on the occasion of the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA) Day that the agency is a pillar of security in Serbia and that it has given a significant contribution in the fight against organised crime.

Cvetkovic said that BIA, reorganised in line with contemporary needs and fulfilling its constitutional obligations, has achieved results that are clearly visible.

He especially singled out the fight against drug traffickers, which has been recognised both at home and abroad.

He announced that the Serbian government, taking into account the economic possibilities of the state, will try to significantly assist the agency in the future.

Cvetkovic recalled that the Serbian government is about to make the next year's budget and pointed out that the BIA can expect better treatment, both in terms of earnings and in terms of material equipment.

The Prime Minister congratulated all BIA members on BIA day that was marked at the headquarters of the agency in the presence of state leadership, representatives of the judiciary, prosecutors, religious communities and diplomatic corps.
