Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac stated that his Ministry will receive assistance of $1 million from the United States in 2011 and that it can count on an additional $900,000 through an officers’ education programme.

Sutanovac told the press in Washington last night that at the meeting with US Undersecretary of Defence Michèle Flournoy he received assurances about the assistance to Serbia.

They also discussed future cooperation between the two ministries and a partnership programme through which the Serbian Army has established exceptionally good and useful relations with the Ohio National Guard.

Sutanovac stressed that Serbia will receive an additional $900,000 through a programme to educate and train cadets and officers at military colleges and courses.

Serbia assigns great importance to the EU integration process and its defence system is one of the moving forces of the reform, Sutanovac observed.

During his stay in Washington Sutanovac will also meet with State Department officials and Chief of the National Guard Bureau General Craig McKinley.

He will also hold a lecture at the National Defence University.
