The provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina intend to privatize the Trepca Mining and Metallurgical Complex via the system of public-private partnerships and the granting of concessions, the Pristina-based daily Koha Ditore reported Sunday.

The privatization method would be the same as applied in the case of the Pristina airport, by granting the concession for 20 years.

A member of the Board of Directors of the Privatisation Agency of Kosovo (PAK), Naser Osmani, pointed to the need of coordination among institutions on the issue of privatization of the enterprise.

The parties involved should act in line with the relevant process. A law on Trepca should regulate the questions to ask the PAK, said PAK Vice Chairman and Director Osmani.

According to the plan of the provisional provincial government, it is expected the mining sector will be restructured in a form attractive to domestic and international investors.

Trepca facilities are located in the southern and northern Kosovska Mitrovica, a city that has been divided between ethnic Albanians and Serbs since the arrival of the international Kosovo Force (KFOR) in the province in June 1999.

The right to the metallurgical complex is also claimed by the Serbian government.
