A group of Belgrade University students who built the first solarpowered mobile telephone charger has won a competition organized by the European Commission for renewable energy solutions, team leader and electrical engineering student Milos Milisavljevic told BETA on April 12.

Milisavljevic said that the solar charger built by his fellow students was voted the best invention in the category of lowering public electricity consumption. "Of the 309 projects that were entered we made it in to the top 27. We are the youngest participants by far," he said.

He added that the solar charger was on display in front of European Parliament and that it would stay there until April 15 when it would be taken back to Belgrade.

"We set up the charger yesterday (in front of Parliament). Today was the opening ceremony and there were many guests from the EU and our representatives," Milosavljevic said.

He also added that all of the other participants in the competition were from EU countries and that only the Serbian team was from a nonEU nation
