The health condition of leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Tomislav Nikolic, who started a hunger and thirst strike on Saturday, was stabilized after his therapy was intensified, doctor Ljubomir Ilic has stated.

However, Ilic did not specify what kind of treatment Nikolic is receiving.

Ilic told the journalists at the private hospital KBC Novi Beograd that Nikolic has no consciousness disorder, and that "he feels better today than he did yesterday."

Ilic stressed that Nikolic is still refusing to take food and water, adding that his vital signs are constantly monitored.

Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic said Tuesday that the condition of SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic, who is on the fourth day of a hunger and thirst strike, is deteriorated, and that he tried to persuade him to end the strike, but was not successful.

At KBC Novi Beograd, the private hospital where Nikolic is being treated, Vucic told reporters that he talked with Nikolic during the night and this morning. Asked if he tried to dissuade Nikolic from continuing strike, he answered affirmatively.
