Serbian Assistant Minister of Interior Predrag Maric has stated that police surveillance around diplomatic headquarters and embassies in Belgrade was increased, adding that the members of the Interior Ministry's Sector for Emergency Management are on full alert.

"Serbia is ready to protect itself from possible terrorist attacks after the murder of Al Qaeda's leader Osama bin Laden," Maric told the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti Wednesday.

When asked how realistic it is for Serbia to be exposed to terrorist actions, Maric responded that there can be no surprises for the Serbian services.

"All of the departments are in the state of alert. We are prepared for any possible form of attack, including the terrorist one," he said.

Maric announced that the bill on the national strategy for protection in emergency situations - fires, floods, earthquakes, landslides, chemical accidents and terrorist attacks, will go before parliament in June.

"This strategically important act should define all risks that Serbia could face in the next five years, as well as the way to deal with them," Maric underscored.
