The foreign ministers of Serbia and China, Vuk Jeremic and Yang Jiechi respectively, confirmed in Belgrade on Wednesday support to Serbia's territorial wholeness and China as a united country, as well as the fact that the two countries share the same stands on all political issues, and announced China's participation in a number of infrastructural projects in Serbia.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Jeremic said that the dialogue between the two countries had reached a very high level, that top-level meetings had become a reality, and in that context mentioned the preparations for the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Serbia, which should take place in due course.
When it comes to the investigation following the report by Council of Europe special rapporteur Dick Marty on human organ trafficking, China backs Serbia's position that it is only the UN Security Council that is entitled to entrust someone with carrying out the investigation in a credible and thorough manner, Jeremic said.
According to him, the stand of Beijing has significantly improved Serbia's position regarding that issue.
Today, after this meeting, the level of cooperation between Serbia and China is a lot higher than it was in the past, Jeremic said, recalling that Serbia is China's sole strategic partner in the region.
China, as Jeremic put it, is a key factor of peace and stability in the world, and a driving force of global economic development. China is regaining the leading role in the world, which such a big country with the largest population in the world rightly deserves, he added.
China is ready to take part in the construction of major infrastructural projects in our country, and in the months to come, we can expect the signing of agreements on some new projects, like the one we already have regarding the building of the Zemun-Borca bridge in Belgrade, Jeremic said.
He also said that Belgrade and Beijing support and share the same stands regarding all political issues.
Serbia strongly backs the policy of one China and it will continue to call for the respect of such a policy in every possible way and at every opportunity it gets, he said, and thanked his Chinese counterpart for the country's support to the defence of Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Jang confirmed China's commitment to dialogue as the means to the resolution of the Kosovo issue, in which the UN Security Council should continue to have an important role.
This is the first visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Jang to Belgrade ever since Serbia became independent on June 5, 2006.
Tadic and Yang discuss bilateral relations and strategic partnership
Serbian President Boris Tadic thanked Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Wednesday on China's consistent support to preserve Serbia's territorial integrity and stressed that Serbia fully supported the One-China policy, the Serbian president's press office said in a release.
According to the release, Tadic and the Chinese foreign minister discussed bilateral relations and deepening the two countries strategic partnership, particularly in the field of economy.
Wreaths laid for victims of NATO bombing of Chinese Embassy
Serbia's and China's foreign ministers Vuk Jeremic and Yang Jiechi laid wreaths Wednesday at the site of the former Chinese Embassy in New Belgrade, which NATO struck with three missiles on May 7, 1999.
Officials of Serbia and China, traditionally friendly countries, paid their respects to the victims, in memory of the day 12 years ago when the diplomatic office of the world's most populous country in the capital of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was hit at 11:45 p.m.
The NATO attack killed two reporters of the Guang Ming Daily, Xu Xinghu and Zhu Ying, and Xinhua agency correspondent Shao Yunhuan, while another 20 people were seriously injured.
The day following the attack, the Yugoslav government said that "the diplomatic building of the People's Republic of China was visibly marked and isolated from the nearest surrounding buildings," assessing that this "pointed to clear intention on part of the aggressor."
China has refused to accept NATO's explanation that its embassy was bombed by mistake.
In 2009, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Wei Xinghua unveiled a memorial plaque at the site of the former embassy, a symbol of the friendship between the two nations.
