In a June 6 speech before the U.N. Security Council, in New York, Hague tribunal chief prosecutor Serge Brammertz thanked the Serbian authorities for the arrest of the most wanted fugitive before that international court, Ratko Mladic, but stressed that he also expected the capture of the last remaining indictee still at large, Goran Hadzic.

Brammertz described Mladic's capture as a most significant event for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, international justice and victims.

The arrest is an "exceptional result" for Serbia, the fulfillment of one of its most significant obligations, and a key step to establishing the rule of law, Brammertz said.

The ICTY prosecutor stated that he now expected Belgrade to investigate how Mladic could have been in hiding for 16 years, and to discover and punish his helpers, including "state officials."
