Foodstuffs and beverages - greatest expenditures of any household budget in Serbia

Expenditure on foodstuffs and non-alcoholic beverages constituted 42.3 percent of the average Serbian household spend, whić in the first quarter of 2011 amounted to RSD 47,500 ( EUR 1 = RSD 100), the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia released on Wednesday.

In the first quarter of 2011, the average household monthly budget in Serbia equalled RSD 48,544. Personal incomes make up the greatest part of the family pecuniary budget, salaries 49 percent and pensions 33.2 percent.

If one is to consider the structure of household expenditures in various regions of Serbia, expenditures on foodstuffs and non-alcoholic beverages in the Belgrade region amounted to 39.1 percent of the total household spend, in Vojvodina 38.8 percent, in the region of Sumadija and Western Serbia 43.5 percent and in the region of Southern and Eastern Serbia 52.2 percent.

On average, 16.4 percent of the total family expenditures went to housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels in the Belgrade region, 19 percent in Vojvodina, 15.8 percent in Sumadija and Western Serbia and 12 percent in Southern and Eastern Serbia.

Expenditures on transport constituted 9.1 percent of the total household spend in Serbia - in the Belgrade region 9.3 percent, in Vojvodina 10.9 percent, Sumadija and Western Serbia 8.6 percent and Southern and Eastern Serbia 6.5 percent.
