The provision on the ban of export of wheat from Serbia that had been in force since mid-March 2011, will stop being effective as of Thursday, which will once again enable a free placement of the domestic bread wheat in foreign markets.

The provision on the ban of export of wheat from Serbia that had been in force since mid-March 2011, will stop being effective as of Thursday, which will once again enable a free placement of the domestic bread wheat in foreign markets.

The Serbian government had banned export of wheat from Serbia in order to stabilize the domestic market and the price of bread.

In that period, domestic balance of payments had been disturbed, as instead of the planned export of 500,000 tons of wheat, about 650,000 tons had already been exported. When it was adopted, the measure was planned to be in force for no longer than three months.

Serbian Minister of Agriculture and Trade Dusan Petrovic stated Monday that the provision on the ban of wheat export will not be extended, and it will stop being effective as of June 16, its expiration date.
