EULEX spokesperson Irina Gudeljevic said Friday that a unit for investigating the allegations made by Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty on trafficking in human organs is being formed.
This unit will work under the rules of EULEX, which include the protection of witnesses and the existing legislation in Kosovo, Gudeljevic told Tanjug.
She said that it is premature to speak about the complexity of investigations into allegations of Dick Marty on trafficking in human organs, arguing that EULEX is ready to protect any witnesses who would give evidence through a special protection unit.
Pristina media report quoting their sources that the unit will comprise 10 people, including a special prosecutor, investigators, translators and necessary equipment.
The Kosovo Special Prosecutor's Office, which operates under the auspices of EULEX, has jurisdiction over this case, Gudeljevic said.
The Kosovo assembly is holding a debate on the draft law on protected witnesses, along with a debate on who should lead an investigation into Marty's allegations.
