Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Dusan Petrovic stated Friday in Belgrade that Serbia will not see a considerable increase in food prices, underlining that experts expect further stabilization of the market in the second half of the year.

Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Dusan Petrovic stated Friday in Belgrade that Serbia will not see a considerable increase in food prices, underlining that experts expect further stabilization of the market in the second half of the year.

Petrovic told journalists at the National Assembly that only one producer has announced a rise in the milk price, while others reduced their prices.

"In Serbia, competition among producers is intense, so those that cannot resolve problems resort to an increase in price," he added.

Petrovic underlined that Serbia can curb inflation by reducing the expenditure of agriculture, as well as by enhancing efficiency.

The minister is also of the opinion that wheat, as one of Serbia's strategic products, should be exported more in the processed, than in raw state.

Petrovic did not want to comment on a possible purchasing price for wheat, but underlined that the ministry is following the prevailing trends in stock markets and national market , as well as that it is considering various offers for purchasing wheat from “ commercial participants in the market.”

As regards that, Serbia will introduce a measure that would protect national producers, and the interests of Serbian citizens, Petrovic concluded.
