The Serbian Railways and the Russian company Metrovagonmash signed a contract in 2010 on the purchase of new diesel-engine trains, to be paid from the loan obtained from the European Company for the Financing of Railroad Rolling Stock EUROFIMA.

Director General of the Serbian Railways Milovan Markovic visited Monday the Metrovagonmash factory in Moscow, where the construction of 12 trains for the Serbian Railways company is underway.

As Tanjug learned from the Serbian Railways, the deadline for the delivery of new diesel-engine trains is to be determined during the visit.

The Serbian Railways and the Russian company Metrovagonmash signed a contract in 2010 on the purchase of new diesel-engine trains, to be paid from the loan obtained from the European Company for the Financing of Railroad Rolling Stock EUROFIMA.

The Serbian Railways are purchasing new passenger trains for the first time after three decades, with the aim to improve national, particularly the regional and local traffic on non-electrified railway tracks in Serbia.

Metrovagonmash, a part of the Transmashholding, was elected as the most favorable bidder at the international public tender, the realization of which was monitored by EUROFIMA.

The Serbian Railways delegation will include President of the General Meeting of Shareholders Zoran Andjelkovic.

The delegation will visit the railway carriage factory, and attend the presentation of new diesel-engine trains, which will be produced according to all international and domestic standards.

The Serbian Railways purchased new modern equipped two-stroke diesel engines.
