About 80 percent of wheat fields in Serbia have been harvested and the rest should be done by the end of the week, the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture told Tanjug on Monday.

About 80 percent of wheat fields in Serbia have been harvested and the rest should be done by the end of the week, the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture told Tanjug on Monday.

According to preliminary data, the average yield is between 3.8 and 3.9 tons per hectare. Wheat was sown on 491,000 hectares last fall.

Harvest is almost over in Vojvodina, while it is still in full swing in mountainous parts of the country, says the Ministry.

Minister of Trade and Agriculture Dusan Petrovic said last week this year was one of the best in the last decade and the total wheat crop is expected to be between 1.8 and 1.9 billion tons.

"We will have enough wheat," Minister Petrovic said.
