The Serbian government committee for economy and finance adopted Friday the draft law on public property which defines the Serbian property on three levels, that is, on the republic, provincial and local level, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic stated.
Following the committee's sitting, Djelic told reporters that the public debate on the draft law should be staged by August 31, after which the government should adopt the bill in early September and forward it to the parliament for adoption.
Djelic expressed belief that the new law on public property and the law on restitution would be adopted by mid-September, thus creating conditions for conducting reforms in the public sector and enabling public enterprises to sell the surplus of their property and so facilitate the inflow of foreign investments.
He noted that the said property no longer serves the functions of the public companies' main activities.
Replying to reporters' question as to whether technical and political agreement has been reached in the adoption of the draft law on public property, Djelic said that all technical issues in the document have been resolved but several political aspects still remain to be tackled.
Djelic expressed hope that during the debate on the law which he believes would be quite heated, parliament majority would be ensured for the adoption of the laws on public property and restitution.
