Kragujevac Mayor Veroljub Stevanovic said Tuesday that serial production of the new Fiat 500L will start at the Fiat Automobili Srbija plant in late May.

According to Stevanovic, April 16 will mark the start of trial production on the model which recently had its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.

Appearing on the local television station in Kragujevac, Stevanovic said all structural works of importance to the factory are under way and will be finished by April 15.

The works will cost the Serbian government some RSD 3 million (EUR 1 = RSD 111), he said.

By the end of the year, around 30,000 units should make their way from the production line in Kragujevac to the Montenegrin port city of Bar, and from there to buyers abroad.

Earlier announcements have the model's price at EUR 16,000 and the output target for next year is 160,000 cars.
